After moving to California as a teenager, Maxi spent many years competing in horse shows, playing polo and winning the United States Sweepstakes in Competitive Endurance Racing. She played guitar at guest ranches, toured with her Country-Western band, has written many articles for magazines, and won “Excellence in Writing” awards at Santa Barbara Writer's Conference. These varied professional experiences and a constant yearning to “return home” add a personal insight into understanding the frustrations and happiness of the heroine who returns home to disprove Thomas Wolfe's maxim, You Can't Go Home Again.
Maxwell now lives happily on a small ranch in California with her loyal dogs and Mini horses.
