My dad was a craftsman and so were both my grandfathers. Even my great grandfathers and great uncles were boatwrights and farmers. The animals and characters I weave into my stories I've known, maybe not in the exact same context I've presented them, but sometime during my life's travels I've run across them and I am grateful for each and every one of those encounters.
