McDonald, PhD, is currently a Professor Emeritus at the Indiana University School of Dentistry in Indianapolis, where he taught Nutrition, Oral Biology and Biochemistry for 36 years, and later served as the Dean of Education. During his career, he received numerous awards for excellence in teaching, and published more than 80 scientific articles, as well as co-authoring more than a dozen textbooks, monographs and book chapters. Jim enjoys all forms of physical fitness and is a past marathoner. He and his wife Mary are enthusiastic bikers, hikers, kayakers, and cross country skiiers. He has maintained an avid interest in American history throughout his life, and it is this fascination that lead him to undertake the writing of this book. He has six children and step-children, and spends as much time as possible with his nine grandchildren.
Joan A. Christen, BGS, MS, is a research associate in the Department of Oral Biology at the Indiana University School of Dentistry, Indianapolis. She has extensive experience and expertise as an author and as a medical/dental editor. Joan earned a Bachelor’s Degree in General Studies from Indiana University in 1984 and a M.S. Ed. Degree in Marital and Family Therapy from Butler University in 1987. Over the past 25 years, she has developed a special interest in the addictive behaviors and has taken a series of continuing education courses in that field of study. With her husband, Arden, she has co-tuthored writings in this arena and in dental research, tobacco control and cessation and dental history, totaling eight books/monographs and nearly 70 published journal articles.lihat lebih sedikit
