Not only was she born to be a writer, but she also loved to inspire others to tell their stories. She taught writing and journalism at the high school and college level, and was an assistant director of marketing and a director of community outreach for Wisconsin Public Television. She had master's degrees in both English and Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. At the end of her life she tutored students and created solid foundations for them to write their way through life.
