Imitating his older brother and sister, he was singing before he was talking, so it was natural for him to become, at age 10, a soprano in a professional choir. He has sung in church choirs and various choruses ever since.
As his family was a highly verbal one, he developed a life-long love affair with the English language in early childhood; as an adult, he followed a career in newspaper, magazine and book publishing—but with some interesting detours. During a 23-year marriage, he and his wife raised two fine children, and joined actively in community affairs.
