He is also an avid adventurer and has spent many a year overseas working and traveling. He has served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Africa; worked as a high school science teacher in Micronesia and as an English teacher in South Korea. He has taken two extensive motorcycle tours across Eastern and Western Europe. He spent two years as a rescue diver on a SCUBA diving boat on Catalina Island. All these experiences have given perspective to his writing.
