A consultant ophthalmic surgeon, now retired from the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, he studied the techniques of retinal surgery as a research fellow at Northwestern University, Chicago. On his return to Scotland, he established a surgical service for the treatment of retinal disease for which he was awarded the OBE.
He has written several text books and one novel. He is married with two children, themselves both married and two grandchildren. He is a keen golfer, interested in history and languages and plays both the bagpipes and the piano.lihat lebih sedikit
