There she wrote newspaper advertising copy, television and radio commercials and company publicity releases. During that time she was also published in several Florida magazines, chiefly authoring personality biographies, plus occasional longer assignments. Shirley is also a published author (Avon Books, NYNY), a mainstream romance novel LOVE NEEDS NO REASON, which enjoyed 9 royalties. She also authored and published a children’s e-book, SCARLETT RED, a selection on Kindle. Since her retirement she has continued to sell articles to Florida magazines.
In 2019 Shirley, anticipating the 40th anniversary of two major maritime tragedies which occurred in the Tampa Bay area in 1980, has written a new novel, SKYWAY DOWN, with both accidents woven into the tapestry of the story
