She holds a BA degree from Westminster College and an MA from Syracuse University. She also was the recipient of an NEH Fellowship at Princeton University. She is retired from Ocean County College where she was an English Professor, Coordinator of the English Program, and Assistant to the President for Institutional Effectiveness. She lives at the Jersey Shore and has a cottage on Cape Cod. Her daughter and son-in-law live in Connecticut with their two sons.
