This stay in Sydney lasted only a short time as she could not tolerate the extreme machismo culture nor the horrible pay scale, not to mention the funny accents and the peculiar use of the English language. After she was the victim of an armed robbery, in which she lost a non-essential part of her thumb, she moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1972 and remained there until she moved to the Verde Valley (100 miles north of Phoenix, where there is no traffic, no undue noise, no pollution) in 2006. She interrupted her freelance career to spend the summer of 1985-86 in Antarctica as a clerk at the Chalet at McMurdo Station, where she sent out the biweekly newsletter “As the Ice Melts.” She would recommend this “sabbatical” to anyone who might be lucky enough to get the chance to do so.lihat lebih sedikit
