After qualifying as a lawyer he worked in London for four years before returning to South Africa and becoming a partner in a legal practice.In 1975 he emigrated to New Zealand and began a career in journalism. He was the editor of a daily newspaper for 10 years before retiring in 2005 to write freelance – reviewing books, and writing columns on travel, wine, and classical music.He is the author of two critically acclaimed rugby books – All Blacks vs Springboks (later updated and re-published) and Up Front – The Story of The All Blacks’ Scrum.
