Nealson grew up in a devout Salvationist family in the Northeastern region of the United States. His father, mother, and younger sister are Salvation Army officers. Nealson holds a B.A. in English from Gordon College and an M.Sc. in Political Theory from the London School of Economics. Currently he works as a Consultant in New York City.

David has been an officer for over 10 years and in that time has served at Box Hill corps and as Territorial Youth Secretary.
