Born in the back room of a private house in the East Mill Creek neighborhood of Salt Lake City, Utah, he has lived in Denver, Colorado; Sacramento, California; and Seattle, Washington. A Mormon, he served a mission to the Spanish-American people in Texas and New Mexico and speaks fluent Spanish.
