I was in the graduating class of 1949 at Plant City High School in Plant City Fl. I had my own cattle during school and was involved with FFA for 5 years. During that time our judging team won State 3 times and advanced to the Nationals in Kansas City. I also had the honor of being elected Secretary at the state level for FFA in 1949 and 1950. During our third trip to Kansas I was awarded an American Farmer Degree. Then in 1952 I had the opportunity to join my brother and another man in a ranching operation with 1,400 head of steers. We operated until 1962. I was a 1/3 partner. I built 30 miles of fence around the 33,000 acres in Collier CO. The military draft took me in 1953-1955. I was in the Signal corps instructing radio operations in Germany.
I bought a lumber mill in 1955 and operated it for 24 years.
I married in 1956 and have 4 children. There are many adventures between 1931 and 1962 which you will have to read the book to learn more about!
(I have owned a sawmill, a dragline, and a drudge boat so I figure to have a fairly rounded personality.)
My cousin Charles Futch, a retired banker, kept after me to write some of the history that I have been involved in. After several years I began to write and you will be surprised at the things you remember once you begin to write. I know a lot of you only need to get started on your trials, tribulations, and escapades to have your own book. Hope you enjoy Wild and Wooley and watch for the continuation in my next book “Sawmill”!lihat lebih sedikit
