She turned her love of British history and Jane Austen into two historical novels: The Belle of Bath and The Secret Heiress. She met her husband, an Englishman, while researching The Belle of Bath. Koppell now writes nonfiction, specializing in medical topics, but she never lost her love for romance. She received her bachelor of arts degree from Barnard College and her master of arts from New York University.
