The couple has three adult children. His daughters, both educators, are married and live in Charleston. His son, also married, lives in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and is in the banking field. The Belmontes have eleven grandchildren, one of whom was killed in 2011 in a tragic car accident.
A graduate of the College of Charleston, Mr. Belmonte also holds a master's degree in education from the University of South Carolina. He held a wide variety of teaching and administrative positions for over sixty years. Elementary, middle, high school, and college-aged students have benefited from his innovative instructional methods.
