I was in awe of their photos and slideshows, and some even had movies about the areas and indigenous people they worked with.I became intrigued about the life outside my tiny world, especially as it pertained to God. Until I was 15, I knew something was happening – my own “genesis” as it were -- that was creating a spark of interest in the Bible and theology.Then as I got older, because I was very inquisitive I didn’t see eye-to-eye with most of the pastors as I felt they weren’t flexible, and lacked imagination about what things in the Bible really meant (i.e., the length of time it took Adam to name all the animals; Adam and Eve’s age difference; and that no one alive today witnessed the people and events in the Bible.)At times I’ve envisioned mankind like a giant ant farm with many different colonies of people sandwiched between glass panels. God inserts a long stick inside to stir things up from time-to-time just to see how people will react. So one way to picture this is to envision the planets that are rotating around the sun sandwiched between two pieces of glass with God and His angels above, and Lucifer and his angels below.When I lived in Alaska, and would be at my goldmine for two weeks or longer without a cellphone, television or radio, or another human anywhere around, I wouldn’t have known if an apocalyptic event had occurred and mankind had come to an end. I relished peace and quiet because I could think long, deep thoughts with no one to disturb me. Whether they were right or wrong, no one was there to challenge them or my writings.Knowing I was the first human being to see the gold I discovered, I thought God had hidden it just for me to find. I knew that God likes gold, because He tells us: The name of the first River is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold (Genesis 2:11). So I wondered, was the gold I found moved there at the time of Noah’s flood? Or had it been there since the first day of Creation?I initially wrote this Bible Study Guide to help parents of children with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI, a complex injury with a broad spectrum of symptoms and disabilities) to show the impact it has on the person with TBI and their family; and to help them explain God’s plans for their children and others with learning disabilities.I wanted to make learning fun and exciting -- like Adam riding an elephant in the Garden of Eden – because it paints a happy, fun thought in kids’ minds, and will help them relate to and remember things in their life.Since modern medicine helped save our adopted daughter’s life at four months of age when she suffered TBI from shaken baby syndrome, I felt a responsibility to help her understand who God is at this point in her life.Though her body is much older her mind is still jumbled, so remembering and understanding things are challenging for her and our family. We’ve always hoped that as she got older her situation would get better. In some ways some things have improved, but unfortunately not everything. She is a blessing to us, and I know God chose us to help her through the many trials she would face.I want my readers to know that in no way are any of my thoughts or comments meant to be disrespectful to God. I’m writing my Bible discussion guides to help you see that God wants to have fellowship with His children, that He has a great sense of humor, and that He wants to give you great joy and peace of mind, especially when you understand His purpose for you on Earth.In no way do my points of view alter any of the Bible’s meanings.
