The recipient of numerous awards, including Humanitarian of the Year for the American Lung Association, the author was also elected Vice Chair of the Michigan Board of Medicine and subsequently the Endowed Professional Chair for Neurosurgical Research. A charitable philanthropist as well, he has contributed generously to the Karmanos Cancer Institute, the March of Dimes and the Detriot Institute of Arts. Dr. Austin has written for numerous medical publications and has written books dealing with medicine, religion, philosophy, and politics, including several books of fiction.
