He was born and raised in Czechoslovakia and immigrated to the US at the age of twenty-three. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley holding a degree in Religious Studies with an emphasis in the Buddhism. He was raised in a secular environment and was therefore not conditioned by any religious thoughts or ideas before the age of thirty. His own inner experiences and insights brought him to spirituality at the age of twenty-eight.
