He attended Emory University and served as a Sergeant of Special Weapons in the U.S. 1st Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force 1941-1945, in the assault at Guadalcanal, and served a second tour with the 4th Marine Division, Fleet Marine Force. He also served in the assault and Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II.
He was born in Gadsden, Alabama to Thomas Grady Gallant, Sr. and Louise Ralls Gallant and raised in Sanford, Florida. He began his journalism career as editor of the Cleveland, Tennessee Daily Banner (1947-1948), and reporter and columnist for the Chattanooga News/Free Press and Chattanooga Times (1948-1963). This was followed by positions as columnist/city editor for the Chattanooga Post from 1966-1970; city editor of the Raleigh News and Observer in 1971; and political reporter/columnist for the Nashville Banner from 1971-1974. He also served as the information officer for Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury William Snodgrass.
During his journalism career, numerous photographs he had taken and articles he had written on national stories such as the Little Rock, Arkansas desegregation riots, the U.S. Space program, and U.S. Supreme Court cases. He also published extensively on the Presidential campaigns of John Kennedy, Richard Nixon and George Wallace. He covered a wide array of topics, from murder trials and medical breakthroughs to interviews with national scientific figures like Werner Von Braun.
He died in 2009 at his home in Nashville, TN on the 234th birthday of the United States Marine Corps.lihat lebih sedikit
