She, like everyone else, was devoted to Katy Leary whose quaint sayings, philosophies, and amusing accounts were a source of delight to all who heard them.
CATHERINE “KATY” LEARY (1856-1934) was born to Irish immigrants in Elmira, New York. Her sister Mary was a maid in the house of Mark Twain’s wife Olivia’s family, the Langdons. Olivia Clemens hired Katy in 1880, bringing her to live in Hartford, and from then until 1910, Katy lived and traveled with the Clemens family. After Olivia’s death in 1904, Katy became Mark Twain’s housekeeper, and for some years after Twain’s death, she ran a boarding house in New York City. Her memoirs, written with the assistance of Mary Lawton, were published as A Lifetime with Mark Twain (1925). Katy Leary died in 1934.lihat lebih sedikit
