He has earned both a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Bachelor of Education Degree from Memorial University of Newfoundland as well as a Masters Degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Western Ontario. He also has three Certificates, in Newfoundland Studies, Criminology, and Museum Studies. His previous works include the books A History of Health Care in Newfoundand and Labrador and Leaving Newfoundland: A History of Out-Migration.
