Born and raised in Cincinnati Ohio, Michael attended Catholic Grade School and Public High School, allowing him an experience of both public and private education. He joined the military in 1981 as an Army Military Policeman in hope of saving up for a college education. His first tour took him to Vicenza, Italy where he found he could travel Europe and still attend college. Michael received an Associate of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Central Texas College. In the ten years it took to complete the degree, while serving in the United States Army, Michael travelled throughout Italy, Germany, Austria, the north east United States, and Hawaii. Each new duty assignment brought meeting new friends after leaving others, new relationships, experiences, love, and a part of the world he had not seen, which are expressed throughout in his writing. His military carreer took him from Cincinnati, Ohio to Fort McClellan, Alabama, Caserma Ederle, Italy, Fort Hamilton, New York City, Field Station Kunia, Hawaii, Fort Hood, Texas, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Wiesbaden Air Base, Germany, Tuzla, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Camp Humphrey's, South Korea, and his final tour before retirement, Baghdad, Iraq.
