Jackson is Professor Emeritus of Veterinary Biosciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He grew up on a farm in northwest Missouri, graduated from the smallest high school in the state, and then attended the University of Missouri at Columbia, earning degrees in Wildlife Management and Zoology. He completed a PhD in Animal Sciences at the University of Illinois. Remaining at that institution, he taught physiology in the College of Veterinary Medicine for 33 years. His research on the brain and reproductive system took him across North America and to parts of Europe and Australia for professional meetings and sabbatical studies.
