Born into a Cosmopolitan lifestyle, in Croatia; surrounded by wealth of stories and culture; her life was to change dramatically. Her family fled from Yugoslavia to France; first as refugees in Paris, then as immigrants in Australia. The trauma, JM says, resulted in her speaking, reading, writing and thinking, with an “accent”.
