Barbara has been a teacher, adminstrator, mentor and editor during her career as an educator at Wamego High School. She served as an instructor for over ten years and as Outreach Director of Highland Community College in Wamego, Kansas for over nine years.
She won two fellowships in Social Studies and a fellowship in Newspaper studies at Kansas State University and two fellowships in Philosophy at Kansas University. Barbara also spent a summer seminar at Stanford University.
She has lectured on the structure of fantasy literature and the history of science fiction at various schools and colleges
