He fought for the Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy, a rebel group in Liberia, before escaping to neighboring Guinea. He became a leader in the Kountaya refugee camp, helping to identify victims of war. Duworko immigrated to Canada in 2005 and has founded three organizations to help children of war.
