Merle Fischlowitz spent his first half of his life in St. Louis, MO, and attended colleges in Iowa and St. Louis. In his long career as educator and psychologist he lived in St. Louis, Suburban Maryland, and Honolulu. He retired to live in San Diego in 1993. He has written poetry since high school.
Merle’s previous books, From Dirt Paths to Golden Streets: Poems of Immigrant Experiences, (2010) and
Songs of Exotic Birds (2012) show the wide range of his interests, distilled into poetic form.
Merle and his wife Teresa share six grown children and four grandchildren.
Merle is proud of his artist son Ben Fischlowitz whose work is in this book, and who also created the cover of From Dirt Paths to Golden Streets: Poems of Immigrant Experiences.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ben Fischlowitz was raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he graduated from Punahou School. He received his professional training and graduated from The Art Center College of Design, in Pasadena, California.
He now lives in San Diego, where he is a free-lance artist and illustrator.
