He later joined the Prince Georges County Fire Department as a Chief Officer. In 1991, he was appointed Fire Chief of Oakland, California. Thirteen days after arriving, Oakland experienced one of the worst wild land/urban fires in its history. The fire took the lives of 25 people and destroyed approximately 3400 housing units. After managing the fire and assisting the city with rebuilding the community, he was appointed Assistant City Manager of Oakland. He went on to become City Manager of three dynamic cities, Durham, North Carolina, San Diego, California and Santa Monica California. He posseses an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and an Executive Masters degree in General Administration. After 34 successful years in the public sector he chose to formally retire. Today, he conducts executive recruitments for Ralph Andersen & Associates. He and his family live on a ranch in southern California where they care for their horses, a dog named Lucille and a Zinfandel vineyard.lihat lebih sedikit
