Alda (Al) Dorrough served in the United States Army from 1948–1968, serving in Germany, Korea, and Vietnam. He was awarded several citations and medals for heroic acts.

Al surrendered to follow Jesus full-time in August 1974. He pastored five Southern Baptist churches within the next thirty-one years. Following the years of pastoring, he served in other areas of ministry. He was an evangelist for a while, preaching revivals across the state. He served as director of evangelism at Falls Creek Baptist Assembly for two years. He also did supply pastoring. God blessed him in many ways during those years.
He has been married to his childhood sweetheart for sixty-one years. They have four children, seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
