Raised by paternal grandparents, with minimum parental involvement, he earned a scholarship to a local boy's prep school and then Vanderbilt University. Coming from a poor background and with a severe stuttering problem, he, nevertheless, aspired to be a leader in business. After five years in Information Technology, he joined Ross Perot's EDS and eventually rose to senior executive ranks. During more than thirty years in business, he learned and taught the practical application of leadership which he reveals in this book.
