Wilmes, MSSW, is a 1977 graduate of Indiana University–Bloomington with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a 1979 graduate of the University of Louisville in Kentucky with a master’s degree in clinical social work. This education, as well as internships and employment in the field of mental health, gave Jim firsthand exposure to the human condition and helped him to develop an analytic/logical mindset.
Having accepted Christ in 1982 and being relatively free from theological bias, this discerning perspective was—and continues to be—critical in his study of Scripture. Jim has studied basic Hebrew as well as basic and intermediate Greek. He attends a local church and has been leading a weekly Bible study at his home since 1996. He is a factory representative for the family home improvement business founded by his now-deceased father.
