His fascination with animals and their habitat was obvious as he began to spend every free moment in the woods and fields. After earning two degrees in Anthropology and spending some time as a college instructor, sportscar mechanic, archaeologist, and farmer, he returned to upstate New York and has spent 25 years as an environmental conservation professional. At the same time he began to write for outdoor publications, and is best known for his weekly newspaper column.
