She loves India and has stayed connected through work and lifelong friends. She serves on the Board of Championwoman, a program that empowers Indian women. Her previous books include, Christopher & Caroline in Kenya; Growing Up Grady; iCAN: A Young Woman’s Guide to Taking the Lead; The Unofficial Diplomat, and Make it In India.

Shakkeela Manoj, an Indian (Kerala) based self taught artist, mainly works on Indian traditional and folk art. Her works are a constant search for the best way to interpret and share Indian mythology and traditions.
