I define him most as a former US Marine drill instructor and judo instructor, trial lawyer, law professor, internationally known martial artist, Olympic-style judo coach, and Delaware State legislator. He is well-known as a character who is tough as nails, brilliant, ingenious, creative, and incredibly human. He marches to a different drummer. Some people claim he is nuts; I assure you, even his worst enemies have learned the hard way he is not. He is fiercely independent and hates the idea that others can influence or control his life. When he first sent me this story, I recognized Tommie has something worthwhile to express and damn interesting to share. That's why I encouraged him to publish it. And by the way, Tommie Little's near-death experience is only the tip of the iceberg. There's plenty more in this fellow's life that is filled with adventure, intrigue, learning, and commonsense wisdom that should be told. I'm happy to have been involved in making it happen.
