After serving two years in the marines, he went into the trucking business. During his business career, he served on the board of the American Trucking Association, was chairman of two state trucking associations, and was appointed to the U.S. Senatorial Business Advisory Board Steering Committee. After retiring from his business in 1989, Brooks has published six novels, written three short stories and an unproduced screen play.
He continues to write a monthly column for a local Philadelphia publication.
