Following his military service and college, he formed a software consulting company and retired in 2008. He also enjoyed involvement in church music and served as a minister of music for over twenty-five years.
He was interested in poetry as a young child and occasionally composed music and wrote poetry for family and friends. Following the death of his daughter, writing became a means of working through his grief and reconfirming his faith and spirituality.
