I entered the army after high school. Upon leaving the army in 1955 I moved to Alaska to work construction.
In 1957 I married, then entered the University of Alaska. After being employed in teaching and school administration during the winter and construction or commercial fishing during the summer for twenty-three years, I retired from education in 1983. A pattern of commercial fishing in the Aleutian Islands summers hunting and hiking in the Brooks Range in the autumn, and winter skiing in Anchorage exists to the present.
