Although his focus was broadcast journalism, he also wrote for the university magazine and local radio show. As a student, Mark landed an internship with Channel 9 News and worked as a field reporter, interviewing notable sports heroes in Los Angeles. After graduating, he was hired as a per diem field reporter and continued to write and edit for the nightly sports program at the station. After becoming disenchanted with the rigidity of news writing and the internal politics of the station, Mark resigned from his position to pursue other interests.
