He is the third of eight children born to Thomas and Dorothea Spencer. Alans love of science fiction, action and adventure was nurtured by his father’s love for comic books and paperback novels. He is married to Donna his wife of 13 years and currently resides in Brockton, Massachusetts. He credits writing as the single most stabilizing force that enabled his subsequent recovery from substance abuse.
