He spent his youth playing competitive hockey, golf, and track and field before accepting a scholarship to Princeton University. There, he was a member of the Cap & Gown Club and earned a degree in geological and geophysical sciences. After graduating in 1990, Daryl pursued a career in oil and gas exploration in international projects. In 1997, he returned to Canada. Currently, he lives in Calgary, Alberta, where he continues his career as a partner in a project management company.
