He subsequently received a bachelor of science degree in zoology from Southeastern Louisiana College and a medical degree from Louisiana State University in New Orleans, accomplishing the latter in just three short years. He completed a one-year “rotating 0” internship at Earl K. Long Hospital in Baton Rouge and then moonlighted for many years in emergency rooms all over the state of Louisiana.
