At Traverse City Central High School, Humphrey was coached by one of Michigan’s most well-respected high school coaches, Ian Hearn. While at Spring Arbor University, he had the unique privilege to play for two thousand-game winners and Hall of Famers, Hank Burbridge and Sam Riggleman.
Coach Humphrey’s coaching career includes experience with all ages, youth through the college level on both the baseball and softball fields. Coach Humphrey has had stints at the varsity level as assistant and head coach, as well as multiple years as an assistant college coach. He has worked with thousands of players throughout the country, attending showcases, clinics, and camps.
In addition to his coaching duties, Coach Humphrey began as an Associate Scout with the New York Mets in 2009, supporting the mid-Atlantic region, as well as the Valley Baseball League. During his scouting career, he has evaluated hundreds of drafted prospects from all rounds of the MLB draft. His experience as an evaluator has helped tremendously in development of hitters. He published his first book, The Tools of Greatness, in 2013 and its second edition in 2015.
