LJ’s daughter, Alexandria, asked LJ to pick out a book for Kinlei—a special book, from grandmother to granddaughter. There are so many great books for children available, but LJ wanted to share with her granddaughter some simple things she was taught as a child. Love, honor, courage, friendship, and honesty were all part of LJ’s childhood, and she thought the joy of sharing those memories with her granddaughter could be the greatest gift. Thinking about what she wanted to say to her granddaughter in a book reminded LJ of some things she did not say to her own children. But all parents miss the point sometimes. She decided to be gentle with herself, as she wanted Kinlei to do the same.
