Ziauddin M. Choudhury spent his early career working for the government in Pakistan and thereafter Bangladesh. A member of the former Civil Service of Pakistan he served the government (1968-81) in various capacities including Deputy Commissioner in Noakhali and Chittagong districts. He left civil service to join the World Bank where he worked in Bank operations in South Asia, policy and research, finance, and information technology (1983-2012).
He regularly writes for Newspapers in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is the author of three books—Assassination of Ziaur Rahman and Aftermath (UPL, Dhaka; 2008), Fight for Bangladesh (Xlibris, Indiana; 2011 ), and Forty Years of Bangladesh (Xlibris, Indiana;2012).
