He followed in his mother Dorothy Powe's footsteps of becoming a teacher. Marquis attended the University of West Alabama to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and a Master's degree in School Counseling. He later received his Specialist degree in Curriculum Instruction Management and Administration from Nova Southeastern University.
