A special, loving bond developed early with my grandparents. We worked side by side, usually in the kitchen, garden, cotton field, or country store. I developed a love of nature from learning to grow flowers and vegetables. My grandmother taught Southern-style cooking; fried okra, squash, cornbread, and Papa Pies. I was grown before I realized that our Papa Pies were really Egg Custard pies.”
She loves children’s literature and knows firsthand how children learn to read. Her goal as a writer and educator is to make books come alive for young readers.
