He holds a B.S.Ed. degree from Abilene Christian University and an M.A. degree from California State University, Long Beach. He worked as a speech/language pathologist and infant habilitation specialist for forty-one years. He directed one of the first projects in Texas to serve severe and multiply handicapped children while working at the West Texas Rehabilitation Center.
