The eldest of four boys, (one adopted -via- ghetto protocols) the author’s Mother, Rev. Sister Phillips being and educator, most summers were reserved for road trips across the U.S.A. Travels of a man-child particularly to the slums and lower bottoms of each state between California to D.C. and from the Golden State to Canada.
The author became the king of the classroom in the 1st and 2nd grade at Baldwin Hills elementary while living in a nearby housing project. 3rd grade was spent in Altadena’s own Audubon Elementary until fighting returned him to Worthington Elementary for the 4th grade then Manchester Elementary for the 5th and 6th grade where fighting won him the title: “King of the School”, 7th grade was cut in half between Bret Hart Prepatory to a new system called Westside Alternative. (One of only four Alternative Schools in Los Angeles) where he managed until the 1st half of the 9th grade. Then the second half at the prestigious Westchester High School where by the middle of the 10th grade fighting landed him in a squad car on the way to juvenile hall.
L.A.’s roughest continuation schools (under Tri-C) became the order of the day. Chevrot Hills B.K.A. Hamilton High Continuation, Walt Whitman B.K.A. Fairfax High Continuation, Daniel Freeman Occupational Center B.K.A. Central Adult High School, Downtown Continuation B.K.A. Metro Continuation, and C.Y.S.A.F. or Community Youth Sports/Arts Foundation.
Finally a slew of state youth and adult facilities, multiple max. and super-max. prison’s, isolation units, segregated housings and then California’s infamous “end of the line” Pelican Bay. Short Corridor - S.H.U. Being a product of constant Church pews while paying all ghetto dues made me.
A combination of vast ghetto experiences throughout America and incarcerations throughout California and Las Vegas, Nevada informs the author not in a way that makes him an author but in that way that makes him a credible truth teller. Summa Cum Laude of the Underworld.
