He is a recipient of a Rockefeller Postdoctoral Fellowship in Environmental Affairs. He served as the Associate Director of the Institute of Regional Studies of the California and the Institute of Chicano Urban Affairs. In addition to his academic and community involvement, he is a visual artist and co-author of Going Digital: The Practice and Vision of Digital Artist.
